Billing Services

UPMS offers complete billing services, including:

• Anesthesia record review, with ICD-9 and CPT coding by certified coders
• Charge calculation based on start and stop times and other documentation
• Electronic or paper claim filing in accordance with insurer requirements
• Payment posting and secondary insurance filing on all claims
• Active telephone follow-up on 100% of idle accounts monthly
• Multiple statement cycles, final notices
• Monthly refund reports on all credit balances
• Process for turning over accounts to collection agency monthly
• Special policies and extensive experience handling "out-of-network" payers, including BCBS of NC
• Monthly report packet succinctly reporting key financial information
• Ability to create custom reports to meet specific client needs

New Practices

UPMS has helped several new practices get established. We are experienced at managing large and small practices at the executive level, negotiating managed care contracts, physician and employee contracts, fee schedule reviews, and other services. Each startup is different and we are flexible in meeting each client's needs.

Consulting

UPMS helps clients with anesthesia-related issues. Examples of past projects include conducting conversion factor surveys, CRNA employment cost/benefit analysis, hospital-group exclusive contract strategy and negotiation advice, new physician recruitment strategy, and billing compliance policy review. UPMS has also helped clients with HIPAA plan implementation, employment agreements, corporate governance, and other issues.

Billing and Compliance

UPMS requires client practices to take compliance seriously. Certified Professional Coders (CPC) proactively review client documentation, and we establish guidelines with each practice regarding how questions or problems will be addressed. We also provide all clients with a copy of the UPMS Code of Conduct and Billing Compliance Plan. UPMS also hires independent auditors to review its coding practices.

On-Site Practice Management

Mr. William Park, Senior Practice Management Consultant, has performed as an on-site, short-term administrator for several area practices. Bill has the expertise and resources to manage an active practice while recruiting, training, and developing policies and procedures for successful transition to long-term management. This unique service has earned Bill high accolades from several physician practices.
